THE FIFTH HALVING
Less new bitcoin.
The same rules.
The next Bitcoin halving after the April 2024 event is expected in 2028, at block 1,050,000. The subsidy changes from 3.125 BTC to 1.5625 BTC. At the target pace of 144 blocks per day, that means about 450 new BTC per day becomes 225.
The halving changes the creation of new coins. It does not halve the bitcoin you hold, cancel transactions, or automatically halve miners’ transaction fees.

Bitcoin halving history
Each event halves the new coin subsidy. Historical dates below are UTC.

| Second | July 9, 2016 | 420,000 | 25 BTC | 12.5 BTC |
| Third | May 11, 2020 | 630,000 | 12.5 BTC | 6.25 BTC |
| Fourth | April 20, 2024 | 840,000 | 6.25 BTC | 3.125 BTC |

A TRANSPARENT ESTIMATE
How this halving clock works
We subtract the latest observed block height from the next multiple of 210,000. We then multiply the blocks remaining by Bitcoin’s target interval of 10 minutes and add that duration to the observation time.
The clock ticks between observations; it does not claim that a new block has arrived every 10 minutes. Real blocks arrive irregularly. The estimate can move forward or backward when fresh data arrives, and other countdowns may use a different average.
The block height comes from the Bitcoin blockchain. The clock checks for updated block data every five minutes. If fresh data cannot be obtained, the last observation stays labeled and the ticking countdown pauses once it becomes stale. Reaching zero is not confirmation: the halving occurs when the target block is mined.
ANOTHER APPROACH TO ISSUANCE
What about Safex?
Safex Cash is mined with RandomSFX, a proof of work algorithm designed for CPUs. Its reward follows an emission curve instead of Bitcoin’s 50% cuts at fixed block heights.

KNOW THE RULES
Bitcoin halving questions
When is the next Bitcoin halving?
The fifth Bitcoin halving occurs at block 1,050,000 and is expected in 2028. The exact day and time depend on how quickly miners produce blocks. This clock estimates the date from the latest observed height and Bitcoin’s target of 10 minutes.
What happens to the Bitcoin block reward?
At block 1,050,000, the new coin subsidy falls from 3.125 BTC to 1.5625 BTC per block. Transaction fees are separate and are not automatically cut in half. Existing bitcoin balances do not change.
Why do Bitcoin halving countdown clocks show different dates?
A clock may use the target of 10 minutes, a recent average block interval, or a longer historical average. Different data timestamps also affect the result. The consensus trigger is the block height; every calendar date is an estimate.
Does a halving guarantee that Bitcoin’s price will rise?
No. A halving reduces the rate of new issuance. Demand, liquidity, market conditions and expectations also affect price. A supply rule alone cannot guarantee a price increase or profitable mining.
How often is this countdown updated?
The seconds tick locally in your browser. The server checks public Bitcoin block data at most once every five minutes per running server process, shared across visitors. A timestamp and data status label show the age of the observation.
Does Safex have a halving like Bitcoin?
Safex Cash follows its own emission curve. Its base reward was 320 SFX per block when checked on October 26, 2026. The next scheduled window is 260 SFX, reached through a threshold in generated supply. That is an 18.75% reduction, rather than a 50% Bitcoin halving.
